Jewelry Repair and Services in Altus, OK

Rings stretch, prongs wear down, clasps snap, and pearls loosen on old silk. None of that means a favorite piece is finished. Crown Jewelry handles jewelry repair in its Altus shop, where Darren Cramer works as the on-site jeweler. Shannon Preston and Darren have both been with the store for over 25 years, and repairs are a large part of what they do every week.

Repairs Done at the Bench

Most everyday fixes fall into a few categories. Here is what the shop covers.

  • Ring Sizing

A ring that spins, slides off, or will not pass your knuckle can be sized up or down. Sizing is also the first step for many inherited rings, which rarely fit the next person who wears them.

  • Prong Repair and Stone Setting

Prongs are what hold a stone in place, and they thin with years of daily wear. Worn prongs can be re-tipped, and a stone that has loosened or fallen out can be reset. Catching a weak prong early is far easier than replacing a lost diamond.

  • Chain, Bracelet, and Pearl Repair

Broken chains and bracelets can be repaired rather than replaced. Pearl strands can be restrung, which restores the spacing between pearls and helps protect them if the strand breaks again.

  • Cleaning and Stone Checks

A professional ring cleaning brings back the shine that lotion and everyday grime dull over time. While the ring is being cleaned, the stones and settings are checked so any loose stones or worn prongs can be addressed before they become a problem.

Remounting and Heirloom Work

Sometimes the stone is fine and the setting is the issue. Diamonds and colored stones can be remounted into a new setting, whether the old one is damaged or simply out of style. Antique family heirlooms can be repaired as well, and if you want something entirely new built around an old stone, custom jewelry design takes that further with CAD mockups you approve before the piece is made.

Watches and Eyeglasses

Watch work goes to Dan Mongeon, the store's watchmaker, who holds certificates from the Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Education Program and the American Watchmakers and Clockmakers Institute. He handles high end watch repairs along with simpler jobs like battery and band replacement. Brands he services and the watches the store carries are covered on the watch repair in Altus page.

Eyeglass repair is also available, which saves a trip out of town for a loose hinge or a missing screw.

Engraving, Appraisals, and Diamond Grading

Engraving can add initials, important dates, or a phrase to a ring, pendant, or charm. Fingerprint and signature engraving preserve a loved one's touch or handwriting. Learn more on the jewelry engraving page.

For documentation, Crown Jewelry certified appraisers conduct point-of-sale and insurance replacement appraisals, and the store offers color and clarity grading of diamonds. Full details are on the jewelry appraisals page.

A few services make buying easier. Five-month layaway and financing are available, and every purchase includes free gift wrapping. If a repair turns up gold or silver you no longer want, the store also buys scrap gold and silver.
