Shopping at Crown Jewelry
Who owns Crown Jewelry?
John and Debra Borders founded the store in Altus in 1984, and it remains family-owned. Their son-in-law, Shannon Preston, runs it today. Debra still works part time as the lead designer on custom jewelry.
Do you sell lab grown diamonds?
Yes. The store carries both lab grown and natural diamonds, so you can compare them side by side before choosing. See the engagement rings and diamond jewelry page for what is available.
What should I know before buying a diamond?
Start with the 4 Cs: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. Together they determine a diamond's price and appearance. Our diamond buying guide explains each one, including why a 1 carat stone costs more than twice a 1/2 carat stone with otherwise equal grades.
Do you carry men's jewelry?
Yes. The store stocks men's jewelry including watches and cufflinks, along with Fossil and Citizen Eco-Drive watches.

Repairs and Watch Service
Are repairs done in the store?
Yes. Darren Cramer, the on-site jeweler, handles ring sizing, prong re-tipping, stone setting, chain and bracelet repair, and pearl restringing in the Altus shop. Your jewelry stays in the building while it is being worked on. The complete list is on our jewelry repair and services page.
Do you repair eyeglasses?
Yes. Eyeglass repair is one of the services offered at the store, alongside jewelry cleaning and stone checks.
Who repairs watches?
Dan Mongeon, a U.S. Air Force retiree who graduated from the watchmaking school at Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee in 2005. He holds certificates from the Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Education Program and the American Watchmakers and Clockmakers Institute.
Which watch brands can be serviced?
Brands serviced include Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Cartier, Tag Heuer, Fossil, and Citizen, among many others. Battery and band replacements are available too. Details are on the watch repair page.
Custom Design and Engraving
Can I design my own ring?
Yes. Debra Borders leads custom jewelry design, and the store creates CAD mockups you can review and revise before the piece is made. You can also bring in your own sketch.
Can stones from an old ring be reused?
Yes. Diamonds and colored stones can be remounted into a new setting, which lets you keep a meaningful stone while updating the style.
What can be engraved?
Initials, important dates, and short phrases can be added to rings, pendants, and charms. Fingerprint and signature engraving are also available. Learn more about jewelry engraving.

Appraisals and Selling Jewelry
Do you offer appraisals for insurance?
Yes. Crown Jewelry's certified appraisers conduct point-of-sale and insurance replacement appraisals, as well as estate appraisals. Diamond color and clarity grading is available as well. See jewelry appraisals for more.
Do you buy gold and old jewelry?
Yes. The store buys gold, silver, diamonds, and other precious stones, including scrap gold and silver. You can also trade older jewelry toward a new piece. Visit we buy gold for details.
Do you sell estate jewelry?
Yes. Crown Jewelry keeps a large estate inventory in the store. A selection appears on the estate jewelry page, and you can call to ask about pieces not shown.
Paying and Visiting
Do you offer layaway or financing?
Yes. Five-month layaway and financing services are both available. Every purchase also includes free gift wrapping.
Where is the store and when is it open?
Crown Jewelry is at 219 N Main St, Altus, OK 73521. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The store is closed on Sunday.
Is Crown Jewelry involved in the Altus community?
